Stop the violence against women*

Since the 1900s, International Women's Day (IWD) has been observed annually on March 8.
The theme for IWD 2018 is “Press for Progress”, which creates awareness of the growing global movement of advocacy, activism and support surrounding gender equality and sexism. However, our focus and concern in the church and nation is the constant violence (overt and covert) meted out to humanity, especially women. Where is the equality? Where is the “progress”?
As she lies sleeping a hail of bullets kills a woman; woman beheaded by husband; 41-year-old mother Hassina Sarah Khan is shot and killed by her ex; Rachel Chadee, a mother of three, is slashed in the face and forced by her male attacker to ingest acid; the wife of a prominent businessman takes to social media after years of physical abuse and the failure of law enforcement to intervene and assist her; Amina Mohammed goes missing two days after taking out a protection order against her ex-husband and is later found in a drain with her throat slit.
