This Government is fond of pointing out when any action which it takes is in keeping with its campaign promises. Frankly I do not think they should be so anxious to remind the population of their campaign promises. Many of these promises, e.g., the first-class highway to Toco; were foolish projects or ideas serving only to stroke somebody’s vanity or facilitate corruption.
Such promises ought never to have been made and, having been made, ought never to be kept. There are, however, some promises which, though lacking in glamour and/or opportunities for self-aggrandisement and self-enrichment, are of vital importance to the national well-being and need to be implemented sooner rather than later.
