Robert Village Hindu School is the winner of the 2017 Trinidad Express Newspapers National Word Championship. The team was presented with a $20,000 cash prize at an awards ceremony held yesterday at the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Port of Spain.
The championship, now in its fifth year, aims to promote literacy among primary school pupils aged nine to 11. Each year, scores of primary schools participate and compete for over $50,000 in prizes.
This was the second victory for Robert Village Primary School, which also took the title in 2016.
Placing second was St Peter’s Primary School, while Rio Claro Hindu school copped the third place prize.
