Tourists escape injury, as concrete slab falls at Maracas Bay washroom

A NUMBER of people including some foreign visitors narrowly escape injury at Maracas beach on Sunday afternoon after a large concrete slab fell from the roofing area of the washroom facility.

“All I heard was a loud bang! And some visitors were walking right there you know, about two feet away,” an eye-witness told the Express.

He said the incident took place around 1 p.m. and that individuals could have easily suffered severe injury or even death if the slab had fallen on them given its size and weight. He said maintenance of such facilities was necessary. Given the large number of people who regularly visit places such as Maracas beach, there is a high possibility of someone being injured due to poor structural maintenance.

“Those people are lucky that it did not fall on them because that certainly could have been their death,” said the witness.
