Stewart 5th in Para Worlds discus*

Akeem Stewart finished fifth in the men’s discus throw F44 at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, England, yesterday. A bronze medallist in the same event at the 2015 Para Worlds in Qatar, he threw 56.53 metres in London to miss out on the podium.
Throwing with therapeutic tape on his shoulder and elbow, Stewart opened the competition with the 56.53 effort. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete was third after the first round, and opted to pass on his next four attempts. He was still in the bronze medal position after five rounds, but was nudged into fifth in the sixth and final round. Stewart threw in round six, but his 54.00m effort could not get him among the medals.
Jeremy Campbell retained his title with a championship record throw of 63.66m.
